Social bookmarking can be very useful in classes by organizing sites that have material related to the subject. In a classes such as a media class or biology class, I can see professors using social bookmarking for reading material so that students can easily find material throughout the semester, especially if a paper is needed for the class. Also social bookmarking allows for efficient sharing of material between students for discussion.

I think social bookmarking is really helpful for any class, especially writing classes where a professor can create a folder of links to websites that offer great writing tips or funny articles. It'd be great for science classes where a professor can add links to specific research articles that he finds important and relating to class material or science sites that are updated daily with interesting news about new scientific discoveries. Teachers can create great resources for students when they want to explore beyond the classroom.

I had never heard of social bookmarking before reading the article, but this seems like a great tool for teachers to use. This fits with our continued emphasis on Web 2.0, where social bookmarking allows users to control and share more of what they are doing on the internet. For teachers, social bookmarking would be a great way to increase collaboration with their students, as well as collaboration between the students themselves. If the teacher finds an interesting article that pertains to the class, they can bookmark it and it will be very easy for students to find, and even add their own bookmarks upon the original bookmark. Students can also share bookmarks for sites that they found helpful to their schoolwork, e.g. a student could bookmark and share a website that does a great job explaining a difficult concept, and the website would then be very easily accessible for the entire class. Teachers could make incentives for students to bookmark relevant articles (more participation points for bookmarking a site), that way more articles are bookmarked and everyone is able to learn more from this collaborative tool.

Social bookmarking sites have the potential to be very useful for education. Social bookmarking allows users to be more interactive with what they are doing on the internet, and allows users to share information with others easily. In terms of education, social bookmarking websites will enable students and teachers to find information more easily. Teachers will be able to research topics just by looking up a few key words and all the sites that people have tagged using those key words will show up. As the article that we read suggests, teachers can also create their own lists of websites and tag them. The teachers can easily refer back to their lists when they are doing research on a certain topic again in the future. The same can be applied to students. The social bookmarking websites provide easy access to information about topics that the students and teachers are interested in. Also, teachers can show their students links to their lists and this could be a good source of information for students when doing a research project. Some sources are not always credible and by providing some possible sources for their students through social bookmarking websites, teachers can make sure students are getting accurate information. The system of tagging allows people to find what they need quickly and also allows people to discover new information and a new perspective on their own topic based on what other people have found.

Social bookmarking sites could be very helpful in education by allowing you and the professor to maintain and share collections of online links that are pertinent to the class. A key feature in bookmarking is tagging. by tagging keywords from your link, it searches similar sites that may also be relevant. On many of these sites, professors may save readings for a particular class. it provides an easy access for their students. The services are great for group projects. by creating a personal account, then entire group can access the different sites bookmarked and can add to more sites that contribute to the project. bookmarking allows the readers to access websites that other readers found more useful than others. When you explore the internet there are so many different sites you come across that its hard to remember what was useful and what was not.

Social bookmarking can help teachers and students in finding references and resources for a particular topic. Tags in social bookmarking make it easier for people to search for information. It's easier than having to repost the link on another site and using a search engine.

The importance of social bookmarking is that it gives users the ability to hone in on relevant articles. The first implication of this is that it filters out all of the unnecessary material that's on the web just by not tagging it for your students. In addition, you can separate articles and information into categories pertinent to the topics being studied. If educators get together to build curricula through these tagging processes then students could access an educator run social bookmarking site and those students can learn how to sort through and find articles for themselves. Social bookmarking in education is a form of academic discernment not yet practiced on the internet for not peer-reviewed sources. A categorical model of constructing curricula is the main form of educational use for social bookmarking.

Social Bookmarking could definitely be used in order to facilitate the sharing of relevant links with an entire class. It presents a way in which students can all share similar webpages so they are all on the same "page" in terms of learned material. Tags allow easier sorting of websites into those which apply to various topics covered in the course. This facilitates organization of webpages into different groups based on their relevance to a specific theme. Different sections of a class can indirectly share materials between them through tagging and thus open up new channels for inter-class sharing.

Social Bookmarking can be useful for teachers and students. Teachers can bookmark website and articles that may be relavent to their class. Then students can sign up and view those websites from home. The tagging of the sites could help with specific problems the student is looking to fix. For example, if there were over 100 websites on there, the student would not have to sift through them all to find what they are looking for. They can use the tags to find the specific pages they need for class.

Many teachers give the same assignments from year to year. For example, students might have to look up "Ancient Greek Coins" every October. Social bookmarking sites, with the accompanying tagging feature, could be an easy way to direct students to useful sites. One very relevant feature is the ability of some sites to alert the user when the link becomes "dead." This means that the teacher would not have to check on the links every year to make sure they still exist.
